A little bit about me
Kia ora, my name is Laura. I am a 23-year-old fun, bubbly and passionate skier from Glen Innes, Tāmaki Makaurau, Aotearoa. (Auckland, New Zealand). My dream is to represent New Zealand on the world stage in Slopestyle & Big Air competitions. I'm currently training & competing in the northern hemisphere based in Europe.
Thanks to my parents, I started skiing at the age of 2 on my home mountain - Mt Ruapehu. My love for mountains and skiing was instantaneous and has continued to grow since then. In 2011 I began to take notice of freestyle skiing and loved the tricks athletes were doing and was eager to learn for myself. From 2015 to the present I have been competing around New Zealand & Europe in as many freestyle events as I can. For NZ winters I'm based in Wānaka and train at Cardrona Alpine Resort.
A huge part of my decision to follow this career path is because of being a woman in a male-dominated sport. I love being a part of the small community of ladies in our country, as well as worldwide contributing to freeskiing.
I hold a strong passion for encouraging women to try snowsports and discover their personal strengths within it. I believe we are more than capable of achieving anything we put our minds to. The female freeskiing community is ever-growing and it is a huge honour to be a part of pushing the sport for kiwi girls.
